D3football.com 2019 All-North Region Team

By Dave Hilbert, d3photography.com; Wheaton athletics

North Central quarterback Broc Rutter and Wheaton defensive tackle Dallas McRae lead the D3football.com 2019 All-North Region team. Rutter was named North Region Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, while McRae was named the North Region Defensive Player of the Year.

Aurora University coach Don Beebe, who led the Spartans to a 9-2 record in his first season as the program’s head coach, is the North Region Coach of the Year. Beebe took over a team which finished 5-5 last season, and in his first year as head coach, led Aurora to the playoffs. The Spartans pushed St. John’s to the brink in the first round of the NCAA postseason.

McRae, a senior from Crown Point, Indiana, helped Wheaton to a 12-1 record. The Thunder reached the national quarterfinals as McRae racked up a team-high 18.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks on the season. He finished with 52 tackles, 36 solo, and had eight quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. His totals included two sacks of St. John’s quarterback Jackson Erdmann in the quarterfinal round and two sacks of Rutter in the teams’ regular-season meeting.

Rutter, a senior from Naperville, Illinois, has led the Cardinals to a 12-1 record and the semifinals of the NCAA Division III football playoffs, throwing 49 touchdown passes and just four interceptions. He has completed 71.8 percent of his passes, averaging 318.1 yards per game, while also rushing for two touchdowns. Rutter threw for 522 yards and five touchdowns in the second round of the playoffs, helping hand Mount Union its earliest playoff defeat in a quarter-century.

The teams, selected in balloting by North Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 212 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 78 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 20, in D3football.com’s pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLVII.
