More news about: St. John Fisher

St. John Fisher College scored 45 unanswered points, as the Cardinals picked up a 52-3 win over University of Rochester in Courage Bowl VII at Sahlen's Stadium in downtown Rochester.

The game was played on the neutral field in front of 5,500 fans and was dedicated to the children of Camp Good Days and Special Times.

The win marked Fisher's 10th straight victory over itsro css-town rival. Rochester had won the first seven meetings between the two schools.

Fisher's Ryan Schmidt caught nine passes for 96 yards and rushed for 51 yards on just four attempts. He also scored three receiving touchdowns – all in the first half – tying the College record for receiving touchdowns in a game.  It is the third time he's accomplished this feat and the second time he's scored three receiving touchdown in a Courage Bowl.

Sophomore Quarterback Ryan Kramer completed 15-of-25 passes for 143 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.

For Rochester, quarterback Braezen Subick was 11-for-19 for 90 yards and threw one interception.

Clarence Onyiriuka rushed for 26 yards on 12 carries.

Fisher out-gained Rochester 385-to-151, and had a 23-to-8 advantage in first downs.

Fisher took the lead for good on a 9-yard pass from Kramer to Schmidt with 6:32 left in the first.   The drive, which went 65 yards on 13 plays, was kept alive after Rochester was assessed a 15-yard roughing the punter penalty.

Rochester made it 7-3 on a 24-yard field goal from Alex Antonucci with six seconds left in first. The scoring drive was set up after Rochester's Chris Bickford sacked Kramer, forcing a fumble, which was recovered by Cainaan Webb at the Fisher 31.

Fisher took control of the game in the second quarter, scoring 21 points over the stanza.

Schmidt scored on a 15-yard pass with 12:26 left in the second, ending the 8-play, 60-yard drive.

FuQuan Borum scored on an 11-yard run midway through the second quarter and Schmidt scored his third touchdown of the game on a 19-yard pass with four seconds left in the half, giving the Cardinals a 28-3 lead at intermission.

Fisher's Chad Monheim kicked a career-long 43-yard field goal with 9:40 left in the third quarter to make it 31-3.

Fisher's special teams unit scored the team's next touchdown, as Kevin Ogiba blocked a punt at the Rochester 7-yard line and scooped up the ball at the Rochester 2 to score his first career touchdown.

The Cardinals closed out the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Ahmed Hassanien to Dan Rudy, the first touchdown pass and reception for both players.

The Fisher defense gave up a season-low three points.   Freshman Nick LoBrutto led the defense with eight tackles and one sack.  Wade Kline intercepted a pass and had a 27-yard return to set up Fisher's final touchdown of the day.

Rochester's Brendan Pidgeon led the Rochester defense with 15 tackles.

Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday and will host Hobart College. Rochester will host Union College at 12 p.m. in the Liberty League season opener for both teams.
