Salve Regina Upends Curry, 31-6, in NEFC Boyd Division Action

More news about: Curry

MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Salve Regina capitalized on six Curry turnovers, and spoiled Homecoming for the Colonels with a 31-6 win on Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Seahawks improve to 4-3 overall and even their New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division record at 2-2. Curry falls to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Boyd Division play.

Salve Regina put the first points on the board with 7:28 remaining in the first quarter courtesy of a one-yard touchdown run by sophomore Richie Edwards (Trumbull, Conn.). At 8:19 of the second frame, the Seahawks recovered a fumble at the Curry 16 then used back-to-back rushes of four and 12 yards by Edwards for their second score of the day. After tacking on the extra point, Salve Regina went into the break with a 14-0 edge.

The Seahawks scored the only points of the third quarter as well, on a seven-yard Rob Lariviere-Tougas (Easthampton, Mass.) scamper with 10:42 remaining in the frame. Early in the fourth quarter, Curry put together a nine-play, 71-yard drive, finally denting the scoreboard via a 10-yard scoring pass from senior Anthony Carnevale (Oradell, N.J.) to freshman Jordan Shairs (Gloucester, Mass.). Salve Regina responded on the ensuing drive with a five-yard touchdown scramble by freshman quarterback Bradley Skeffington (Salem, Mass.), and later capped off the scoring with a 26-yard field goal by junior Brendan Deasy (Quincy, Mass.).

Curry held an edge in first downs (19-13) and total offensive yards (271-247), while the Seahawks dominated in time of possession (35:20-24:40).

Skeffington was 4-for-13 for 33 yards through the air, while collecting 31 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Edwards led all rushers with 83 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns. Lariviere-Tougas had 11 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.

Carnevale was 11-for-21 for 109 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Senior Mark Gilson (Mansfield, Mass.) was 11-for-25 for 91 yards. Junior Rob Bambini (Westwood, Mass.) reeled in 11 catches for a game-high 139 yards. Sophomore Phil Bigelow (East Orange, N.J.) led the Colonels on the ground with 58 yards on 15 carries.

Senior A.J. Albert (Franklin Park, N.J.) had a team-high eight total tackles (7 solo) including three tackles for loss (-8 yards). Freshman Phil Terio (Trumbull, Conn.) had six total tackles (5 solo) and an interception with a 23-yard return.

Curry's defense was led by graduate Mike Whittaker (Milton, Mass.) with a game-high 10 total tackles (8 solo), including 2.5 tackles for loss (-4 yards). Senior Pat Hannon (Norton, Mass.) and sophomore Tim O'Brien (East Sandwich, Mass.) each had three quarterback sacks.

Both teams return to action on October 29, as Salve Regina hosts M.I.T. at noon and Curry travels to Nichols at 1:00 p.m.
