Hamline ran up 345 yards total offense on one of the league's best defenses. Unfortunately, they were also facing one of the league's top offenses as well. The result was a freewheeling 38-14 Homecoming loss to No. 15 Bethel before 1,834 fans at Klas Field. 

Austin Duncan ran for 121 yards and a TD to add to his career record. The junior had the 14th 100-yard+ rushing game of his HU career and passed the 3,000 mark. Tim Bona threw for 217 yards, including a TD pass to TE Phillip Sherman (pictured). Naji El-Araby snared a game high six passes for 55 yards. But the highflying Royals ran for 331 yards and passed for 263 more to improve to 4-0 in the MIAC, 4-1 overall. HU fell to 0-3, 2-3. 

It started out like a heavyweight fight. The Royals took the opening kickoff and went 78 yards in nine plays to open the scoring. HU responded in kind with a 85 yard, nine play drive that ended with Bona hooking up with Sherman for a 23 yard score -- his third score of the season.. BU took over the rest of the half, scoring three more times for a 28-7 intermission advantage. 

In the second half, Bethel hit first on a field goal to make it 31-7. On the first play after the kickoff, Bona and Sherman hooked up again -- this time for a 50 yard gain. Three plkays later, Duncan barrelled his way into the end zone from 11 yards for his fifth TD of the season. The Royals closed the scoring with a fourth quarter score. 

Defensively, Anthony Hill was in on 13 tackles (seven) while Zach Schwalbach added seven solos and five assists.

The Pipers continue their march against the MIAC elites next Saturday when St. Thomas vists Klas Field. Game time is 1:10 p.m.
