More news about: Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Red Men improved to 4-4 on the season and 3-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Satruday, October 31st, as the Red Men put on a dominant Halloween performance at Art Keller Field, knocking-off Millikin University, 36-17.

With the win Carthage improved to 4-4 in the season and 3-2 in the CCIW while knocking Millikin down to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The Red Men would put together one of the most complete games of the season as Carthage gained a season-high 528 yards on offense and the defense allowed a season best of only 170 yards in the game.

After opening drives for each teams resulted in punts, Carthage used an 11 play 61 yard drive to get on the scoreboard first with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Olles to Tommy Bazarek who went in untouched for the opening score and following the missed point after touchdown the Red Men were up 6-0.

Millikin answered quickly with two touchdown passes from Nick Pippin in less than five minutes to give Millikin a 14-6 lead early in the second quarter.

Carthage would go to the air again and cut into the deficit as Ethan Olles found Eddie Miklasz for a 15 yard touchdown down pass to make it 14-13 in favor of Millikin.

Carthage would take the lead late in the second quarter on a 33-yard Lance Unland field goal with 1:34 left in the half.  However, Millikin would answer with a field goal of their own to take a 17-16 lead into the half.

The Carthage defense and ground game would be awakened at the half as in the third quarter the Red Men held the Big Blue to one-yard of total offense while Carthage moved the ball fluently for 141 yards.

The Carthage running game would account for 123 yards in the quarter including touchdown runs of 34 yards and 80 yards by Nick Anzelmo and London Townsend respectively to give the Red Men a 29-17 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

Javier Rhoades would finish the scoring as he would be on the receiving end of a Olles pass from five-yards out with 3:48 remaining in the game.

Individually, London Townsend rushed for a team-high 133 yards on ten carries, Tristan Petersen added 71 yards on 18 carries and Anzelmo finished with 60 yards and a touchdown.

Olles finished the game 13-of-22 passing for 174 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Defensively, Carthage was led by K.J. Simpson who had seven tackles with six coming solo and added a sack and a forced fumble.  Connor Calvert and Richard Motter each had two pass breakups for the Red Men and Calvert added an interception for the second-consecutive game.

The Red Men return to Art Keller Field next Saturday as Carthage hosts North Park University at 1:00 p.m.  on Senior Day.
