Bobcats Roll To Third-Straight Win

More news about: Frostburg State

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Junior Connor Cox tossed two touchdown passes to classmate Sergio Andino and junior Jamaal Morant ran for two touchdowns as No. 15 Frostburg won for the third-straight game on Friday night as it rolled past Southern Virginia, 35-3.

The win lifts the Bobcats to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the NJAC. During the current three-game winning streak, Frostburg is outscoring its three opponents 156-13 and is averaging nearly 500 yards in offense per game.

Cox completed 60.7 percent of his passes (12-of-17) for 222 yards, while Morant scored two touchdowns on the ground for the third time this season

Behind its triple option offense, Southern Virginia (1-7, 0-6) became just the second school to rush for over 100 yards against FSU this fall. The Knights ran for 151 yards, but completed just one pass for five yards.

The Bobcat defense forced SVU to punt five times, forced two first-half fumbles and allowed just two drives over 30 yards. The hosts marched 52 yards on six plays for a 40-yard field goal late in the first quarter.

Frostburg, meanwhile, scored a touchdown on its first four possessions and never looked back.

Morant pushed his way into the end zone for a two-yard score on the Bobcats' first drive and Cox connected with Andino for a 15-yard touchdown on the second drive for a 14-0 lead.

Hatch's field goal for Southern Virginia narrowed the deficit to 14-3, but the Bobcats tacked on two more touchdowns in the second frame.

Morant opened the second quarter with an 11-yard scoring jolt and fellow junior Grayson Boyce scored on a two-yard run as the Bobcats lead swelled to 28-3 midway through the second.

Cox and Andino brought the scoring to a close on the evening with their second pitch-and-catch touchdown. Cox found Andino for 18 yards as the third quarter clock expired.

Friday marked the third-straight game that Cox and Andino have connected for two touchdowns. Andino finished the night with seven receptions for 104 yards.

After not catching a pass in the first three games this season, Andino has come on strong over the last four weeks with 17 receptions for 323 yards and seven touchdowns.

Cox's two scores moved him into second place in program history with 49 career touchdown passes.

Junior Josh Scales led the Bobcats with eight tackles, including a 0.5 tackle for loss. Senior Niles Scott added six tackles, 1.5 TFLs and one sack, while freshman Zach Strand made all three of his tackles behind the line of scrimmage to go along with two sacks.

Frostburg returns home next Saturday when it hosts Kean for Senior Day at 1:00 pm.

Notes: The win is the fourth-straight for Frostburg over Southern Virginia … Fitzgerald is now 3-0 against his former team … Fitzgerald remains perfect in night games at Frostburg at 7-0 … The win is the seventh-straight away from Bobcat Stadium for Frostburg … FSU has won five-straight in the state of Virginia.
