No. 3 Brockport Secures Undefeated Season, Defeating Morrisville 49-7

More news about: Brockport

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – In the regular season finale, The No. 3 College at Brockport football team put on a show against Morrisville State, racing past the Mustangs 49-7.

The Golden Eagles finish their second straight regular season undefeated, with a 10-0 mark on the year and a 7-0 record in the Empire 8. The Mustangs will end 2018 with a 6-4 record and a 4-2 conference mark.

Led by quarterback Joe Germinerio, the Golden Eagles made quick work of their opponents, with a very productive day offensively. Brockport broke onto the board in their opening drive, when Germinerio found Joe Benedict on an 11-yard pick up, capping an 80-yard drive to post the 7-0 lead.

The Green and Gold scoring exploded in the second quarter, posting points on every drive in the frame. The first score came after a 98-yard drive with the Brockport offense operating like a well-oiled machine, thriving both on the ground and through the air to set up the score. Germinerio put the finishing touches on the charge, using a six-yard rush to punch in the endzone, and post his second score of the day.

On the ensuing drive, it only took two-plays to add the Golden Eagles third touchdown, with two pass plays getting the job done. Germinerio connected with Alex Benson for a 10-yard gain to open the drive. A 42-yard bomb from Germinerio to Hubbard was all it took to get into the endzone, as the Green and Gold extended their lead to 21-0. Germinerio shined on the fourth Green and Gold scoring drive, going 6-for-7 through the air, and rushing in the six-yard score to post the 28-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Despite the Mustangs posting a score on their first drive of the second half, Brockport didn't falter, providing the answer on their ensuing drive. Germinerio added another score, this time through the air as he found DaQuan Hubbard for the four-yard score.

The Green and Gold added a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the win. Germinerio again flexed his strength, capping off a 74-yard drive with a 23-yard hook up to Eamon Gillespie for his final score of the contest. Christopher Clarke needed only two plays to post a score in the waning minutes of the contest, with two rushes, including a 31-yard pick up, enough for the score. Brockport held off the home team, making a statement in the 49-7 win.

Germinerio shined on offense for the Green and Gold, going 32-of-41 passing for 341-yards through the air, and four TDs. He also added 65-yards on the ground and two scores. Joseph Ortiz was a favorite target, with nine catches for 86-yards, while Hubbard picked up 70-yards and two scores. Benedict led the ground game, picking up 78-yards on 14-carries.

Freshman Ben Marshall had a big day in the Green and Gold, picking up eight tackles, including six solo and a broken-up pass. Tim Terry added seven tackles, with two for a loss of 10-yards, including a sack. Matt Szymanski also posted five tackles, with two sacks for a loss of 13-yards.

The Golden Eagles will await their fate in the 2018 NCAA Division III Football Playoffs. The selection show airs on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m. where the Playoff bracket will be released.
