NEWPORT, R.I. -- Joey Mauriello rushed for 207 yards and two scores as Salve Regina amassed 300 rushing yards on their way to a 48-6 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) football clash at Toppa Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks (5-1, 1-1 CCC) offense scored early and often, reaching the end zone on its first four possessions of the game. Jack Maguire hit Nicholas Lane for 44 yards down to the Nor'easter six-yard line on their first drive. Two plays later Mauriello rushed in from two yards out to put Salve Regina in front 7-0.

Mauriello had a 37-yard rush on fourth down on the Seahawks' next drive. John Whitehouse hauled in a six-yard touchdown on the next play to extend the lead. He struck again with a 42-yard rush to start the next possession. Mauriello accumulated his rushing total on just 17 carries. He ran in from 13-yards out to put Salve Regina ahead 21-0. Salve Regina went in front 28-0 to start the second on a 22-yard scamper by Connor Welsh.

Jaymeson Maheux got the ground game going for the Nor'easters (3-2, 1-1 CCC) on the ensuing drive with five rushes for 35 yards, including a three-yard score to trim into the deficit to 28-6. Michael Lemay picked off Maguire on the next drive, but UNE was unable to get its offense going. The Seahawks added another touchdown before the end of the half as Maguire found Pat Travers for a 14-yard touchdown. The Nor'easters drove deep into Salve Regina territory but were stopped on fourth down in the final minute.

Neither team could get their offense going in the third quarter. Salve Regina scored the only points -- a 36-yard field goal by Chris Maida to make the score 38-6. He nailed another one from 34-yards early in the fourth quarter. Joseph Vachon scored the final touchdown on a four-yard rush with 4:35 to play in the fourth.

Salve Regina had 476 yards of total offense to just 228 for UNE. Maguire was 12-for-20 for 159 and two scores through the air. Travers had five catches for 38 yards. Evan Laroche added 72 yards on the ground

Defensively, Jeremy Diaz had five tackles, including one for a loss. Keegan Stanton-Meas added four tackles.
