Garrett and Edmondson's recording-breaking performances lead Muskingum past Capital

Senior quarterback Jordan Garrett and junior receiver Zuri Edmondson recorded historic performances to help lead Muskingum to a 46-27 season-finale win at Capital on Saturday. With the win, Muskingum secured its first five-win season since the 2003 campaign and first top-half finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference since the 2009 season.

  • Senior quarterback Jordan Garrett passed for a school record of 482 yards and seven touchdowns. He eclipsed the school mark for passing yards in a season (2,323) and touchdown passes (20). Garrett also set the school record for total offense in a game (492) and a season (2,429). Garrett's historic day also saw him set the school record for passing completions in a game (41), passing attempts in a game (58), passing completions for a season (194), and passing attempts for a season (333).
  • Junior wideout Zuri Edmondson set the school record for receiving yards in a game (266) and receptions (17). He also tied the school record with three touchdown receptions. Edmondson's 824 yards receiving this season ranks second all-time.
  • Muskingum secured its first five-win season since the 2003 campaign.

  • Sophomore linebacker Kadden Lester and senior defensive lineman Connor Finnicum each logged seven tackles. Finnicum also added 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
  • Capital's Luke McCarrell went 14-of-26 for 200 yards and three scores.
  • Ben Everson led the Comet rushers with nine carries for 55 yards and one score. He also passed for 45 yards.

How it Happened

  • After trailing 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, Muskingum scored 20 straight points in the second quarter to take a 20-7 lead into the break.
  • Garrett led the first scoring drive that resulted in a 27-yard score to Edmondson. The touchdown capped a 13-play, 77-yard drive.
  • Garrett found Edmondson again for a 10-yard strike to end a five-play, 67-yard drive.
  • Goodman capped off the Muskie first-half scoring with a two-yard score from Garrett.
  • The Muskies extended their margin to 27-7 early in the third quarter when Garrett hit Connor for a one-yard score. The scoring drive covered 69 yards in 10 plays.
  • Muskingum added one more score in the third quarter and two in the fourth quarter to complete its scoring.
  • Goodwin hauled in his second score on a five-yard pass from Garrett at the 4:44 mark of the third quarter.
  • Keitt ended a three-play, 62-yard drive with a seven-yard pass from Garrett in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter.
  • Garrett found Edmondson one final time for a nine-yard score at the 5:29 mark of the final frame. The touchdown capped off an eight-play, 64-yard drive.
