Rowan Assistant Coach Tom Doddy Announces Retirement after 22 Years with the Profs

More news about: Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ - Longtime Rowan assistant head football coach Tom Doddy has announced his retirement after 22 years of working with the Profs' program. Doddy has served in a variety of roles on staff throughout the years and most recently was the offensive line coach and run game coordinator from 2017 through the 2021 season.

He came to Rowan in 2000 to join head coach K.C. Keeler's staff as offensive coordinator and remained in that role under current head coach Jay Accorsi through 2014. Doddy then took over as defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2016 before moving into his current position.

Although his true passion in coaching is the offensive line, Doddy also coached quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends, safeties and defensive lineman. Along the way, he guided many Profs, while playing a key role in recruiting.

"Tom Doddy's service to Rowan University, but most importantly the profound effect he had on the people within the University community, is immeasurable.  He touched so many lives within our athletic department and provided countless young men in our football program the balanced touch of a fatherly figure," said Accorsi. "He taught, instructed and guided so many student-athletes, specifically the offensive linemen who he has an undying passion for. The University, the athletic department and especially the football program are better because of extraordinary people like Tom.  He will be greatly missed by all of us!"

During his time with the Profs, Doddy played an integral role in the overall success of Rowan football, with the teams that posted 149 victories, won eight NJAC Championships and made eight trips to the NCAA Playoffs, including three appearances in the NCAA Semifinals.

"I have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to coach here.  We were able to experience some great successes and accomplishments. I was provided many opportunities to expand my horizons and make me a better coach," said Doddy, a 1983 graduate of Muhlenberg College. "I am so proud to have been a part of it. And it's not about one guy on the team, it's about every guy."

"I owe a great deal of gratitude to the head coaches who I worked for — K.C. Keeler for giving me the opportunity to get back into coaching on the collegiate level and Jay Accorsi for allowing me to continue when he was named head coach. Jay is not only a good football coach, but an outstanding person as well," said Doddy.

Prior to coming to Rowan, Doddy was the assistant football coach at Muhlenberg from 1983 to 1996. He then came to New Jersey and Highland Regional High School in 1996 and was an assistant football coach and social studies teacher for four years.

"As my time at Rowan is ending, I am not retiring completely.  This is a truly exciting time for me as I embark on the next chapter of my career," said Doddy. "I would love to thank the athletic administration and coaching staff for a wonderful experience the past 22 years.  Most importantly, I would like to thank the players, past and present, that I had opportunity to work with at Rowan.  You have certainly made an indelible impact on my life."
