#20 R-MC Football Wins at CUA 41-6

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior quarterback Drew Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) threw for three first-half touchdowns and the Yellow Jacket defense did not allow a touchdown as No. 20 Randolph-Macon posted a 41-6 victory at Catholic on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:

  • The Yellow Jacket defense forced the Cardinals to punt on each of their first two possessions before R-MC took over at midfield. Campanale hit senior receiver David Wallis (Cedar Point, N.C./Croatan) with a 19-yard scoring strike with 5:24 left in the first period. The extra point was missed to make it 6-0.
  • The Cardinals returned a fumble 19 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter to take a 7-6 advantage.
  • R-MC drove 65 yards in seven plays at Campanale connected with senior receiver Zach Bowman (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) on a 24-yard TD as the Yellow Jackets reclaimed the lead at 13-7 with 6:12 left in the second period.
  • The Yellow Jacket defense stopped Catholic on downs on the RMC 35 with 3:31 remaining in the quarter. Campanale drove the offense 65 yards in eight plays as he found senior receiver Joey Hunt (Olney, Md./Sherwood) on a 13-yard scoring pass with 40 second until intermission as the visitors took a 20-7 lead at halftime.
  • R-MC took the second-half kickoff and moved 77 yards in six plays as senior running back Nick Hale (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) found the end zone from 33 yards out to extend the lead to 27-7.
  • Hale scored from one yard out early in the fourth quarter as the advantage expanded to 34-7.
  • Junior running back Gage Pennington (Robbins, N.C./North Moore) had a three-yard touchdown run with 6:22 remaining to make the final 41-7.

By The Numbers:

  • R-MC had 496 yards of total offense, including 301 on the ground the 195 through the air.
  • The Yellow Jacket defense held the Cardinals to 35 net rushing yards after allowing zero net rushing yards in the opener vs. NC Wesleyan.
  • R-MC went 3 for 3 on four-down plays, while CUA was 0 for 5.
  • The Yellow Jackets had the ball for 36:02, while the Cardinals had it for 23:58.
  • Campanale completed 12 of 14 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Wallis had five catches for 48 yards and one score to lead the receiving corps.
  • Junior Kwesi Clarke (Reigelwood, N.C./North Brunswick) had 11 carries for 90 yards. Hale rushed 14 times for 89 yards and two scores.
  • Senior Cade Jones (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley) led the R-MC defense with eight tackles, including five solo stops.

  • R-MC has outscored CUA 144-23 in their past three meetings.
