Five Scots Part of This Year's Hampshire Honor Society

More news about: Wooster

College of Wooster football seniors Lake Barrett, Charlie Henegar, Cole Hissong, Matt Pardi, and Matt Ulishney have been granted membership in the 2022 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, the NFF announced on Wednesday. The Hampshire Honor Society is annually made up of seniors from all collegiate divisions who were a starter or significant contributor, achieved a minimum 3.2 GPA, and have concluded their playing career at Wooster.

Barrett, a biology and education major from Columbia South Carolina, became the program's 13th multi-time Academic All-American® this fall, when he was voted a second-team selection by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).  The D3football.com Preseason All-American and NFF Campbell Trophy semifinalist earned this third All-NCAC award this past fall. Barrett became the second placekicker in program history to earn three All-NCAC certificates and is one of 40 three-time All-NCAC selections in program history. The Fred Mitchell Award nominee became the first placekicker in program history with two seasons without an extra-point miss with at least 10 makes and enters 2023 with 91 consecutive extra-point makes.

Henegar, an education and history major from Doylestown, Ohio, started his career as a wide receiver and transitioned to a starting defensive back in 2021. As a senior, Henegar started seven games, made 16 tackles, and had a career-high eight tackles against Denison University. As a starting wide receiver as a first-year, Henegar logged 16 receptions for 186 yards and two touchdowns. He caught an 18-year touchdown pass in a win over Wabash College in what marked the Fighting Scots' first victory over the Little Giants since 2004.

Hissong, a second-team D3football.com and Associated Press All-American following the 2021 season, is arguably the greatest tight end in program history, evidenced by top totals in receptions (145), receiving yards (2,020), and receiving touchdowns (18) by a tight end, with the totals ranking third, fifth, and sixth all-time in program history among all receivers, running backs, and tight ends. He became the first player in program history to earn D3football.com All-Region laurels in three consecutive seasons, was a three-time D3football.com Preseason All-American, and a three-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree. Hissong, who played in the All-American Bowl and the Podym College All-Star Bowl, caught the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds remaining in Wooster's stunning 44-43 win over Wittenberg University, a game in which the Scots overcame a 33-7 third-quarter deficit to knock off their rivals for the first win in the series since 2008.

Pardi, one of a program-record three CSC Academic All-Americans® in 2022, rewrote the program's punting records. He averaged 41.1 yards per punt over 104 attempts at Wooster, with the per-boot average breaking the NCAC and Wooster career marks. Pardi lived up to the D3football.com Preseason All-American billing with 43.5 yards per punt in 2022, with that breaking the program's 74-year-old single-season record and ranking second within Div. III for the year. Pardi earned D3football.com All-Region honors as a junior and was a two-time all-conference and two-time CSC Academic All-District® selection.

Ulishney, a first-team CSC Academic All-American® as a senior, led the NCAC with 103 tackles. He ranked 22nd within Div. III with 10.3 tackles per game and eighth in the country at 6.7 solo tackles per game. The first Scot since 2014 to log over 100 tackles in a season earned All-NCAC honors for the first time and his first CSC Academic All-District® certificate. This fall, Ulishney logged six games with at least a dozen tackles, including against Wittenberg. He opened the year with four games with at least a dozen stops. The four-year starter exploded onto the scene as a dynamic returner, while defensively, he helped the Scots to a top-25 showing in scoring defense as a first-year.

Twenty-nine Wooster student-athletes have earned membership in the prestigious society in the last eight years.

In all, over 1,700 players from 328 collegiate programs qualified for this year's Hampshire Honor Society.
