Football Wins Fourth Straight in Rout of Methodist

More news about: Brevard

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Brevard College football team (4-3, 4-0 USA South) trounced Methodist University (1-5, 1-2 USAS) 52-20, as the Tornados used a 31-point second half to pull away from the Monarchs on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The victory gives the Tornados their first four-game win streak since 2021, and the program's best-ever start in conference play in program history as BC improves to 4-0 in USA South action. The 32-point win over Methodist marks Brevard's largest win over the Monarchs in six all-time meetings, and Brevard's 52 points scored are a season-high and the team's most since 2017 at North Carolina Wesleyan.

Ethan Beamish, Brevard's sophomore quarterback from Simpsonville, South Carolina, continued his breakout campaign with a four-touchdown performance, marking the third-consecutive contest that he has thrown for four touchdown passes. Beamish went 22-for-34 passing with 259 yards.

Chancellor Lee-Parker tallied a pair of rushing touchdowns, bringing his season total to nine in 2023 on the ground. Zackary Orr led all Tornado receivers with 99 receiving yards on four catches, while Adam Douglas hauled in a pair of touchdowns through the air. Jordan Rowell and DJ Taylor also tallied touchdown catches, and Cooper Hogan had a team-best five catches.

Toby Naylor and James Woods each had six tackles apiece to lead a Tornado defense that generated a season-high six turnovers. Quintrell Bowman was a part of three turnovers himself with a career-high two interceptions and a forced fumble, while Woods also forced a fumble. Ben Ellis and Baylee Ramey each hauled in their first interceptions as Tornados. Kameron Moore recovered both fumbles for BC.

Junior placekicker Hugo Taylor nailed all seven of his extra-point attempts and hit a 26-yard field goal to account for 10 of Brevard's points on the afternoon.

Brandon Bullins threw for a pair of Monarch touchdown passes as he connected with Wade Thomas on both of them. Keyshawn Pete totaled 74 yards on the ground with a touchdown score as well.

A wild snap on a Methodist punt attempt resulted in a short line-drive punt for a loss that landed in the arms of Montrell Stinson, who returned it 25 yards for the touchdown score giving BC a 7-0 lead early.

Neither side found the end zone for 20 minutes before the Tornados broke through with just over four minutes left in the second quarter as Lee-Parker punched the ball in for three yards out. Methodist answered back with a touchdown of its own, but BC scored again just before the break with a two-yard TD run as Brevard took a 14-point lead into halftime, 21-7.

Rowell recorded his first career touchdown to open the second half scoring up, extending BC's advantage to 21 points right out of the gate. Methodist struck right back with a touchdown pass, but DJ Taylor put Brevard back up by 21 with a 21-yard TD reception.

Douglas caught the first of his two touchdown receptions right before the third quarter ended. Hugo Taylor hit a field goal and Douglas caught his second touchdown of the afternoon as BC capped off a 24-0 scoring run, as the Tornados cruised to the 32-point win.

Brevard outpaced Methodist 145-84 on the ground and 259-183 through the air for a 404-267 total offensive edge. The most glaring edge for the Tornados was the 6-0 margin in turnovers, as BC's defense forced four interceptions and a pair of fumbles.

BC will enjoy a bye week before heading down to LaGrange, Georgia on Saturday, October 28 at 3 p.m. to face LaGrange College.
