Last-Minute Touchdown Lifts Brevard Past DII Erskine, 38-34

BREVARD, N.C. – Senior quarterback Ethan Beamish threw four touchdown passes, including the game-winning 19-yard strike to junior wide receiver Jordan Barnett with 18 seconds left, as the Brevard College football team (2-1) stormed back from a 21-point deficit to stun NCAA DII Erskine (0-3) 38-34 on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

The Tornados trailed by 21 points late in the second quarter before Beamish found Reggie Taylor II for a 12-yard score just before halftime. Brevard then outscored Erskine (0-3) 31-13 after the break, highlighted by Adam Douglas' 77-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter and Barnett's decisive catch in the final minute.

Beamish finished 20-of-32 for 345 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor II led all receivers with a career-best seven catches for a career-high 138 yards and two scores, while Douglas added a career-high 125 yards and a touchdown on four grabs. Rayshawn Williams paced the Tornados' ground game with 54 rushing yards and a score.

Erskine quarterback Ryan Killmer passed for 424 yards and three touchdowns but threw a costly interception in the third quarter. Josh Brown caught five passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, while Logan Coldren rushed for 118 yards and two scores.

D3football.com Preseason All-American Robert Dorsey was the catalyst for Brevard's defense, as the senior DL recorded a QB sack and four solo tackles-for-loss. Brandon Broughton recorded five solo tackles and a TFL, while Dre Burton picked off a Flying Fleet pass. Emarea Fowler and Samuel Grimes each forced fumbles for the Nados, with Zion Fauntleroy-McDaniel and Antonio King recovering those loose balls.

The Flying Fleet jumped ahead 14-0 in the first quarter on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Killmer to Brown and a 39-yard scoring run by Coldren. Erskine extended the margin to 21-0 midway through the second quarter before Brevard's rally began.

After Douglas' long touchdown gave Brevard its first lead at 31-27 with 4:11 remaining, Erskine answered on Killmer's 38-yard strike to Siah Mack with 1:48 left. Beamish then engineered a five-play, 79-yard drive capped by Barnett's touchdown.

Brevard edged Erskine despite being outgained 590-477, as BC three turnovers and controlled possession in the second half.

The Tornados will next enjoy their bye week before beginning USA South Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Jackson, Mississippi against Belhaven, with kickoff slated for 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT.
