QB Sed Harris, Jr., East Texas Baptist
Harris set team records with runs of 95 and 98 yards for touchdowns, and totaled 404 yards of total offense as the Tigers opened with a 33-20 win at UW-La Crosse Saturday. He rushed for 261 yards and passed for 143 with two touchdowns in leading ETBU to its first season-opening win since 2001.
OL McClain Still, Max Jones, Atticus Frank, Hunter Findley, Yates Marr, Sewanee
The Sewanee line paved the way for 277 rushing yards as Sewanee snapped a 16-game losing streak. Sewanee only rushed for 626 yards in all of 2009. The Tigers averaged 4.7 yards per rush, only gave up one sack, and had no penalties. Eight players carried the ball, highlighted by an 80-yard rusher, one with 58, one with 46, and one with 41.
RB Caleb Jennings, Sr., Emory and Henry
Jennings scored all three touchdowns in the Wasps’ 23-17 win against Ferrum in double overtime, including picking up a fumble and diving into the end zone for six. He carried 28 times for 213 yards.
RB Dion Wilson, Sr., Millikin
Wilson carried 34 times for 278 yards and five touchdowns in the Big Blue’s 42-31 win against the Blueboys of Illinois College.
WR Drew Milner, Sr., Crown
Milner caught 14 passes for 184 yards and four touchdowns and Crown gave the UMAC a rare victory against an MIAC team, 49-35 against Carleton.
WR Earl Peoples, Jr., Randolph-Macon
Peoples made 10 catches for 165 yards and two scores in a 54-14 win against Methodist. Peoples had a 54-yard touchdown on the third play from scrimmage, then capped off a 35-point half for R-MC with touchdown grab in the final minute.
WR Muneer Al-Hameed, Sr., Augsburg
Al-Hameed caught 10 passes for a career-high 178 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing for another TD, in Augsburg's 62-10 win over Concordia (Wis.). Al-Hameed caught touchdown passes of 37 and 15 yards, while also throwing a 47-yard scoring strike on a wide receiver option play in the second quarter.
Defense
DE Joemese Scott, Jr., Defiance
Scott recorded 3.5 sacks to account for 19 lost yards and had seven total tackles to anchor the Yellow Jacket defense in a 19-13 overtime loss to Muskingum. Defiance held Muskingum to 57 rushing yards on 50 attempts and 144 total yards of offense.
DT Tyler Hemry, Jr., Coe
Hemry recorded five tackles, four of them solo and two sacks in Coe’s 48-21 win at Iowa Wesleyan.
DE Matt Sargent, Jr., Chicago
Sargent had three sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss, 11 total tackles and a forced fumble as the Maroons defeated Beloit 28-25. The Maroons held the Buccaneers to six points in the second half.
LB Ralph Pineda, Sr., Willamette
Pineda recorded 11 tackles, recovered a fumble at the UW-Stevens Point 4-yard line to set up Willamette’s final touchdown and intercepted a pass, which he returned 44 yards.
LB Anthony Johnson, Jr., St. Vincent
Johnson had 14 tackles, six of them solo, to pick up double-digit tackles for the 10th time in 13 career games. He had two tackles for loss and intercepted a pass to set up a third-quarter touchdown in a narrow 19-14 loss to Bridgewater (Va.).
LB Joe Williams, Jr., Marietta
Williams came up with a team-high nine total tackles and returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown in a 28-7 win against Marietta.
LB Corey Giffing, Jr., Shenandoah
Giffing recorded 13 tackles, seven of them solo, had a tackle and a half for loss and a forced fumble in a 16-13 loss to Catholic.
CB Chris Rountree, So., Ursinus
Rountree had two interceptions in Saturday night’s win against Albright. His first came in the second quarter as he picked a pass in the back of the end zone to stop an Albright drive at the Ursinus 25. His second interception came with 6:15 left in the fourth as he picked a pass at the Bears 25 yard line and returned it 17 yards.
S Brady Ervin, Sr., St. Thomas
Ervin picked off two passes and returned one for a touchdown to help the Tommies roll to a 40-7 win Saturday at St. Norbert. His 29-yard return for a TD put the Toms ahead 20-0. After the Knights pulled within 20-7 at halftime, Ervin's second interception set up a UST field goal. He also had one solo and one assisted tackle and helped UST limit St. Norbert to 11 first downs and 196 yards.
S Joe Delaney, Jr., Gettysburg
Delaney made 10 tackles, forced a fumble, and intercepted a pass in Gettysburg’s 42-28 win at Lebanon Valley. His forced fumble led to a touchdown that gave the Bullets a 14-0 first-quarter lead, and his interception and 46-yard return with 16 seconds left clinched the outcome.
CB Matt McCulloch, Sr, UW-Whitewater
McCulloch had an interception and nine tackles, seven solo, as the Warhawks limited Adrian to just 88 passing yards in a 35-0 shutout win.
Special teams
K Mitchell Bailey, So., Howard Payne
Bailey hit a pair of 50-yard field goals and finished with four on the game in five attempts in a double-overtime 40-34 road loss to Trinity. Bailey, whose other field goals came from 44 and 35 yards out, also ran in a two-point conversion. The two point conversion came on a missnap that went high, right into Bailey's hands. He sprinted for the pylon and beat the Trinity defense. The second 50-yarder sent the game into double overtime. Bailey was also good on his two extra-point attempts.
P Richard Pattison, Jr., Carnegie Mellon
Pattison averaged 44.8 yards per punt, including a long of 53 yards and put two punts inside the 20 in a 28-21 win against Grove City.
RET Sam Wagner, Fr., Lawrence
The first time Wagner ever touched a ball in a collegiate game, he returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown. In Lawrence’s 31-24 loss at St. Scholastica, Wagner returned a kickoff early in the first quarter to give the Vikings a 7-3 lead. In 107 seasons of Lawrence football, it is believed Wagner is the first freshman to return a kickoff for a touchdown the first time he touched the ball. Wagner also caught a 21-yard touchdown pass and finished with six catches for 69 yards.
